Meet new artists at the Market: Rebecca Miller Campbell

You can expect the same standard of excellence every year at Kentucky Crafted: The Market but never the same exact show. The Kentucky Arts Council juries new participants into the Kentucky Crafted Program annually, so there is always new artwork to discover. Meet some of the artists new to the Market in 2016.

How did you get started? What is your training?
My work is a reflection of many different techniques and disciplines, which I’ve experimented with and honed throughout the years. I am a self-taught artist. I began drawing, painting and sewing at a young age. At some point I realized fabric makes a fantastic canvas! I made my first art doll around 2002.

What do you want buyers to know about your work? What makes it different?
Every piece of art I create is one-of-a-kind in nature. I pay special attention to small details and quality craftsmanship. I infuse each piece with humor, personality and whimsy and I am truly complimented if my work elicits a hearty laugh from the viewer. I want my pieces to look and feel at home in a modern gallery or a room filled with antiques.

Name some of your career accomplishments.
My work has been published in several editions of national magazines including “Prims” and “Art Doll Quarterly.” I am an exhibiting member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen. My work has been included in group exhibits in Columbus, Ohio, and at the Kentucky Folk Art Center in Morehead.

What are you looking forward to about showing at Kentucky Crafted: The Market?
I am excited to show my work at Kentucky Crafted: The Market. I love seeing the reaction of others when they view my work for the first time. I am also looking forward to the wholesale market and gathering feedback about my artwork.

The Market will be open to the public 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 5 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 6. Tickets are $10 for one day and $15 for both days, and can be purchased online or at the door. Children 15 years of age and under are admitted free with a paying adult.
